For the 18th year in a row, the CP Holiday Train will be pulling into Calgary to support communities and collect donations for food banks.

The train was scheduled to pull into Anderson CTrain station at 6:45 p.m. Saturday night.

Performances include JUNO award winner and platinum selling country singer Dallas Smith and the Odds from 7 p.m. until 7:45 p.m.

The train, which travels across the prairies and coast to coast, is decorated with Christmas lights. It raises money, donations and awareness for food banks across Canada. The initiative started in 1999.

Despite the deep freeze, there was a huge turnout in Airdrie Friday night for the CP Holiday Train. Nearly 4,000 people braved the cold.

The locomotive, which started its cross-country trek in November, will arrive in town and lower its stage door. Bands that are on the train will perform a 30-minute concert, and then there are presentations with local food banks before the train pulls out to its next stop. Stops in Canada are scheduled through to Dec. 17.
