The University of Alberta Golden Bears men’s soccer team won their first national championship in a decade on Sunday with a 1-0 win over the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) Citadins.
The Golden Bears last won a Canadian Interuniversity Sport championship in 2006.
Alberta goalkeeper Connor James made three saves to earn the clean sheet for his team while Ajay Khabra scored the winner when he headed in a corner kick delivered by teammate Niko Saler.
In the game’s first half, Khabra was given a yellow card.

The championship match was played at Alumni Stadium in Guelph, Ont.
On Saturday, UQAM beat the Guelph Gryphons 3-2 to advance to the final.
