One man was killed after being hit by a car on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Calgary on Wednesday.
It happened at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 22 just after midnight.
RCMP said it appeared the 37-year-old victim was struck by an eastbound vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The driver of the vehicle hasn’t been charged with anything. Alcohol isn’t believed to be a factor with the driver of the vehicle,” RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff said.
Eastbound lanes of Highway 1 east of Highway 22 were closed for about five hours while officers investigated. The highway was reopened at around 6:45 a.m.
Police said the victim may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. RCMP have not yet released his name, pending notification of his family.
