Members of the Saskatoon’s emergency services are taking part in “100 Woman Who Care: Emergency Services YXE,” a new initiative to raise funds for local charities.

100 Women Who care was started in November 2006 in Jackson, Mich., when 100 plus women raised $12,800 at their first meeting to buy 300 new baby cribs for an organization in their city.

Members of the Saskatoon organization hope to match that success.

The goal of the grassroots group is to have 100 women write a cheque for $100 each to raise $10,000 for a local charity.

Their first event is being held on Tuesday at the League Sports Lounge at 301 Ontario Ave starting at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Presentations will be made by AIDS Saskatoon, Hope’s Home and Read Saskatoon. One charity will then be selected to receive proceeds from the evening, which includes a silent auction.

Organizers said the group is not limited to just 100 women or those employed in emergency services – it is also open to wives and daughters or anyone who “had to call an ambulance.”

The group plans to meet at least twice a year help improve and make an impact on lives in the community.
