Fire investigators were back at the scene of a deadly house fire in the city’s northeast.
One man died and three others were taken to hospital after a fire destroyed a home at around 2 a.m. in Coventry Hills Saturday.
The two-alarm blaze happened in the 100 block of Coverton Heights NE.

On Sunday, friends gathered outside what was left of the home.
“It’s heart-wrenching, very much so….I’m just doing whatever I can to help the family,” Bruce Kenworthy, a friend of the family, said.
Kenworthy came back to Calgary from Fort McMurray as soon as he heard what happened to his friend Yvon Gaudet and his family.
“He’s a very caring, giving guy. He likes to meet people and he’s always out helping people,” Kenworthy said.

Yvon’s wife, Diane Morais, and daughter, Karine Gaudet, got out with minor injuries. Yvon is still in the hospital recovering from serious burns.
“How Yvon got out – he went out the bedroom window and jumped off the roof at the back.”
Another man, believed to be Karine’s boyfriend, did not make it out. Firefighters located his body later Saturday morning.

Neighbours said not knowing exactly what happened, makes it more difficult.
Jade Briggs, who started a GoFundMe page for the family, lives next door.
“It’s a little too close to home obviously, especially seeing how close it was to my bedroom. This could’ve happened to me, it’s a little shocking and upsetting,” Briggs said.
Longtime neighbours have also brought clothing and gift cards for the family.
“They are almost set up with pretty much everything they need,” Sandie Caywood said. “Yvon is a social butterfly of the community. They are just a lot of fun. He is a funny person and Diane is just as sweet as any wife and mother could be. They’re a really good family.”
Fire investigators were back at the scene on Sunday, trying to piece together what started the fire and what led to the tragic loss of a young man’s life.
“The family is doing as good as can be expected. They are in the care of the son. The support that they have received from the community and friends and family has been phenomenal,” Caywood said. “Yvon is still in the hospital, he’s doing better every day. No visitors at this time except for immediate family.”
