Shooting sends car into Burnaby home
WATCH: Early Wednesday morning, a targeted shooting ended with the victim almost taking out an innocent bystander, when the car he was driving careened out of control and straight into the bedroom of a home. Aaron McArthur reports.

Burnaby RCMP is investigating an unusual case this morning after a car slammed into a house following a shooting.

Shortly after 1 a.m. RCMP responded to reports of shots fired near Broadway and Fell Avenue. When they arrived they found a car had crashed into the basement of a home, apparently in reverse.

First responders had to pull a man from the vehicle using the jaws of life and rushed him to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The Acura he was driving has now been removed from the scene.

Investigators say the victim, aged 44, was shot in what appears to be a targeted incident. The victim is well known to police and is affiliated with an organized crime group.

A family of five was home at the time of the incident but they were not hurt. A relative told Global News the car trapped a young woman in her bed and her parents had to break the side window to free her. Luckily, she wasn’t hurt.

A neighbour told Global News they heard about six or seven shots around the time of the incident. The neighbour next door to the home told Global News he knew it was gunfire immediately and took cover.
