New program aims to keep international students in NS

A new pilot program called the Stay in Nova Scotia initiative was launched Saturday by Premier Stephen McNeil.

The goal? To keep international students in the province after they complete their studies.

“Helping international students stay in Nova Scotia will strengthen our province,” McNeil said in a news release.

“We want more young people to choose Nova Scotia as a place to live and work after they graduate.”

The province of Nova Scotia and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) will each invest $288,812 into the program.

The money will cover training, workshops, as well as help local employers offset the cost of hiring students 50 international students during their final year of school.
