Northern Alberta teen faces impaired driving charges after deadly crash

An 18-year-old Fairview man is facing several charges in connection with a northern Alberta crash in May that left a 16-year-old girl dead.

On Tuesday, RCMP said Zackery Dewitz had been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

At around 4:30 a.m. on May 13, police said officers were called to a crash northeast of Fairview on Township Road 822 near Range Road 31.

Mounties said the crash sent Dewitz to hospital. The 16-year-old Fairveiw girl was airlifted to hospital where she later died.

Dewitz is scheduled to appear before the Fairview Provincial Courthouse on Nov.23.
