The New Brunswick Select Committee on Climate Change has completed public talks and will soon draft their recommendations to the province.
The seven member committee was appointed by Premier Brian Gallant earlier this year and tasked with providing the government with a set of climate change recommendations after months of talks with experts and members of the public.

“People want to be able to do something just like people want to recycle,” New Brunswick Green Party leader David Coon said of the response they saw with more than 100 presenters taking part.

“So I think the appetite is there if we put in place the necessary policy environment that actually works with people, works with municipalities, works at the community level.”
Committee Chair Andrew Harvey said many of the same concerns were raised throughout the proceedings which ran through the summer.
Although they were aware of many of the concerns brought forth by residents before talks began, Harvey says now it’s up to the government to take the initiative.
“There has to be really a big government leadership role in this to provide coordination,” said Harvey.
The committee will begin talks with First Nations leaders next week before beginning to draft their formal recommendations to the premier.
The report is expected to be completed by mid-October.
