Manhole cover blows off downtown during rush hour Monday afternoon

Residents described hearing a manhole cover blow off between 10 and 11 Avenues and 2 Street S.W. just before 5 p.m. Monday.

Some neighbouring buildings also said their lights flickered at the time.

Enmax did not report any loss of service in the area, but they were spotted on scene along with police and the Calgary Fire Department.

Smoke was spotted coming out of the manhole.

The street was blocked off, and police were directing traffic.

No cause has been reported.
