A five-year-old girl from Arkansas who suffered gruesome injuries after a vicious dog attack is now recovering at home.
Carmen Meadows, 5, and her brother were playing outside on Monday when a Shepherd-pit bull mix began attacking the girl.
Carmen’s father, Casey Meadows, said he was working on a roof when he heard his daughter’s screams.
He said when he got to his daughter he saw blood everywhere.
“There was a pit bull that had her on the ground with her face inside his mouth shaking her,” Meadows told CBS affiliate KTHV News.
Footage of Carmen shows the child with a swollen eye and stitches by one of her eyebrows.
“She got hurt real bad,” Meadows told KTHV.
The owner of the dog, Linwood Sanders, said that was the first time his dog attacked someone.
“Buddy gets along with everything. That’s the first time he ever did something like that,” Sanders told KTHV.
Sanders has surrendered his dog and it’s expected to be put down on Wednesday.
He told KTHV he made the decision because he didn’t want the animal to hurt anyone else.
Now, Meadows is hoping his daughter can recover from the “traumatizing experience.”
According to KTHV, if a dog attacks a person the owner has to either surrender their pet to be put down or quarantine the animal for 10 days at a vet or animal shelter.
