The BC Coroners Service said Monday an Edmonton man died following a scuba diving incident northwest of Nanaimo last week.

According to a statement, 52-year-old Martin Keith Bishop went scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean with a dive master and another person on July 20.

The coroners service said the trio entered the water at a well-known diving spot near Tyee Crescent and Blueback Road in Nanoose.

Officials said “something went wrong” during the dive and Bishop was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s family has been notified. His death is now being investigated by both the BC Coroners Service and the RCMP.
