A serious collision westbound on Highway 407 in Brampton, Ont. involving a coach bus and vehicle has left three people dead, Ontario Provincial Police said.

Police say the vehicle, a 1948 Chevrolet, experienced a mechanical issue with its right rear wheel which forced it to veer into another lane. It was there that it crashed into a coach bus.

“It’s best to be described as a t-bone impact,” OPP Sgt. Vince Idzenga said. “As the result of the impact the Chevrolet exploded and was redirected to the shoulder. As it entered the shoulder it did flip. At this time the vehicle was fully engulfed.”

Two passersby stopped to assist the occupants of the vehicle.

“Two males were extricated from the vehicle by the two citizens and the other occupant could not be extricated,” Idzenga said. “As a result of the collision all three occupants sustained fatal injuries.”

Idzenga said all 49 passengers and the driver on-board the coach bus were uninjured. The bus sustained only minor damage.
