WINNIPEG – Dan McCarthy has a slim one stroke lead after two rounds of the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada Players Cup at the Niakwa Country Club.

McCarthy, the order of merit leader on the tour this season, shot a second round 64 to sit on top of the leaderboard at minus-12. McCarthy recorded a hole-in-one at the 173 yard, par-3 second hole. It was one of two eagles on his scorecard in the second round. He also had five birdies and two bogeys on the day.

“All in all it was pretty good today.” said McCarthy. “I kind of was a little off with my swing coming into the week, so I’ve been trying to find it. I got a little squirrelly on the back-nine. Made some good saves to kind of keep the momentum going.”

The cut line was minus-3 and Gunton’s Aaron Cockerill was the only Manitoban to make the cut. A second round 68 has him in the clubhouse at 5-under-par, tied for 28th place. Cockerill had seven birdies and two bogeys on his scorecard, but he’s still getting used to the big gallery following him.

“It was a pretty up and down day.” Cockerill said. “I was pretty nervous out there for the first few holes. I hit a couple interesting shots. But it’s nice to have some family and friends out. Not many people get to see me play all the time, so having a home tournament it’s nice for them to come out and be able to see it.”
