WINNIPEG — A new MRI suite at Grace Hospital has cut down the wait for a scan by one week.
But the medical director of diagnostics for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, Dr. Michael Essig, said it’s unclear how long that will last.
“Overall, the demand for MRI scans is increasing continuously for many reasons. First of all, the population in the city increases and the population is getting older,” he said.
The eighth MRI in the province cut down waits from 25 to 24 weeks, he said. It will perform 3,000 scans per year.
The MRI suite has been named for Edward and Marjorie Danylchuk in honour of their donation to the Grace Hospital Foundation Tomorrow’s Grace Capital Campaign. Their $3.25 million gift is the largest one-time donation to a community hospital in Winnipeg.
