A Cincinnati police officer had a close call when a murder suspect attempted to grab the officer’s gun while switching the suspect’s handcuffs.

According to WLWT5 News, the murder suspect, Thomas Robinson, was being processed by police in an interrogation room.

Video cameras in the room recorded the incident showing the police officer hunched over trying to take off Robinson’s handcuffs when suddenly the suspect looks towards the gun and grabs it.

The police officer quickly blocks Robinson from yanking the gun out of its holster and grapples with the suspect.

Two other officers rush into the room and taze the suspect.

In the video, Robinson yells “kill me, kill me” when struggling to take the officer’s firearm.

Cincinnati Police Lt. Steve Saunders would not confirm with WLWT5 News that the suspect attempted “suicide by cop” by trying to steal the officer’s gun.

“As a police officer, that’s probably one of the worst nightmares you can play out in your head is somebody struggling with you over your gun,” Saunders told WLWT5 News.

Robinson is charged with murder after allegedly killing a 17-year-old boy in a shooting.
