MONTREAL – The arson squad is investigating after an early-morning blaze ripped through an apartment building in Park-Extension.
The fire broke out around 1 a.m Monday, on the the first floor of a three-storey apartment complex on De L’Épée Avenue near d’Anvers Avenue.
Twelve people were evacuated from the eight-unit building and one man was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
Montreal police spokesperson Benoît Boiselle said the injured man was heavily intoxicated, and it is unclear exactly how he was hurt.
The building was heavily damaged by the blaze.
Boiselle said it appears the fire was deliberately set.
The investigation continues.
