Residents on a quiet street in Surrey are stunned after a speeding vehicle crashed through their neighbourhood and landed upside down on someone’s front lawn Friday afternoon.

“My wife was out front doing some weed-wacking two minutes before this happened. She could have been hit and killed. Thirty seconds before that there was a kid on a skateboard going down the street,” said Ken Friesen who lives next door to where the wreckage took place on 132A Street.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Friesen says there were two women in the vehicle at the time of the accident and at least one sustained enough injuries to be sent to the hospital. The other was ordered to take a breathalyzer test at the scene, according to Friesen, and was taken away by police in handcuffs.

While Friesen did not sustain any property damage from this accident, he says speeding cars have previously hit his tow truck, wiped out his fence twice, and destroyed a bench in his front yard.

He’s hoping the city can put an end to the reckless driving by installing speed bumps on the road.

Surrey RCMP declined to comment on the incident.
