Art lovers from around the world will get a chance to bid on a variety of Canadian artwork put up for auction by the Heffel Fine Art Auction House, in a live event Wednesday at the Vancouver Convention Centre.
Organizers say the auction is a chance for the public to view museum-quality masterpieces that have been in private hands for many years.
Some of the works include paintings by renowned B.C. artist Emily Carr, including an extremely rare watercolour work; a post-war canvas by war artist E.J. Hughes; three major paintings by Lawren Harris; and significant works by other original members of the so-called Group of Seven, a group of Canadian artists whose works symbolize the distinctly Canadian identity.
The auction is expected to fetch anywhere between $9 million and $12 million in sales this year.
Prior to Wednesday’s live auction, some works have been available for a preview at the Heffel Gallery at 2247 Granville St.
