35-year-old Halifax woman killed along Highway 104

RCMP say a 35-year-old woman from Halifax has died following a multi-vehicle crash near Pictou County, N.S.

The collision happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Monday.

RCMP say an SUV travelling east along Highway 104 crossed the centre line and struck the rear driver’s side of an oncoming pick-up truck. The vehicle then continued directly into the path of an oncoming car and they collided head-on.

The victim, who was driving the car, died at the scene. She was travelling two children, a four-year-old boy who suffered non-life threatening injuries and a three-year-old girl, who was not injured.

The driver of the SUV, a 72-year-old woman from Pomquet, N.S., sustained serious injuries and was transported by Life Flight to hospital in Halifax.

RCMP say the occupants of the pick-up truck were uninjured in the collision.

Highway 104 is expected to be closed in both directions for most of the evening. Traffic is being diverted to Highway 4 between exits 27 and 29.
