Edmonton Fire Rescue Services lifted the fire ban for the city Friday thanks to colder weather and lots of rain.
People within the City of Edmonton are allowed to use open-burning permits, fireworks, backyard fire pits and recreational cook stoves in parks.

However, officials stressed everyone must use caution. All fire pits must meet all requirements as outlined by the Community Standards Bylaw.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services said the city is still not seeing ideal weather conditions but “the fire risk is manageable if the proper precautions are taken.”

The province eased its fire ban and off-highway vehicle restrictions for some parts of Alberta Thursday.
Alberta Wildfire’s Chad Morrison said it was partially lifted “due to the normal May long weekend weather we get which is rain and snow.”

The fire ban and off-highway vehicle restrictions remained in northeastern Alberta.
“Please, please be careful with everything you do, especially with fire,” Shane Schreiber, managing director of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, said.

Despite the recent precipitation, Leduc County remained under a fire ban.
“We realize much-needed precipitation continues to fall; however, it is too early to determine if this precipitation is sufficient to allow open burning in Leduc County,” Leduc County Fire Chief Darrell Fleming said. “Recent events in our province have shown how unpredictable fire can be, and we will not risk the safety of people and properties in Leduc County.
“Until we have an opportunity to better assess and minimize the risk, the fire ban will remain in effect today and for the duration of the Victoria Day long weekend. We will reassess and provide an
update next week.”
