Pedestrian struck and killed by CP train in Calgary

CALGARY – One man is dead after being struck by a CP Rail train in Calgary on Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the tracks, just north of Southland Drive, at around 10:23 a.m.

The man was transported to Foothills Medical Centre in life-threatening condition, where he later died of his injuries.

The Calgary police traffic unit is investigating, along with CP Rail.

“The initial investigation indicates the train crew sounded the horn and applied the train’s emergency brakes, but unfortunately were unable to avoid making contact,” a CP Rail spokesperson said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the individual and their family.”

The identity of the victim has not been released.
