A 47-year-old Sylvan Lake man was charged with aggravated assault on Tuesday in connection with a 10-month-old baby being sent to hospital last month.
RCMP launched an investigation on March 12 after someone filed a complaint when the child was taken to hospital with what police called “unexplained injuries” following an incident in Sylvan Lake.
Sylvan Lake RCMP investigated with the help of several other RCMP units: the Calgary General Investigation Section, the Edmonton General Investigation Section, Forensic Identification Section, Special Tactical Operations and Red Deer Major Crimes Unit.
Despite suffering serious injuries, the baby has since been released from hospital.
The accused has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on May 26.
Mounties said they are withholding the name of the accused in order to protect the victim’s identity.
RCMP said they were also not revealing the relationship between the victim and the accused but added that they believe there is no danger posed to the public.
