A Calgary police officer has been charged with break and enter, mischief to property and breaching a court order after he allegedly stole property from his estranged wife.

Police allege the officer had the locks compromised to get into his wife’s Copperfield home on Wednesday. Police said he then removed property and loaded it onto a truck before he was arrested at the home. No one was home at the time.

The officer was released but rearrested and charged on Friday. He is on leave from the CPS.

“As is standard procedure with domestic offences where the victim could be identified by naming the accused, we will not be releasing the name of the officer charged,” police said in a statement.

They did say he last worked as a patrol officer and is 33 years old with eight years of service.

Police said they released the charges in the interest of transparency, and the allegations are not related to the execution of his duties.
