Two adults, baby killed in two-vehicle collision in New Brunswick

RCMP are still investigating a tragic accident that killed three people on Monday evening outside Salisbury, New Brunswick.

Among the young victims were a one-year-old baby boy and a high school student from Salisbury.

“It’s terrible, you don’t know what to say in a situation like this, a one year-old-baby who never had a chance to do anything in life,” said Norman Vautour who owns a camp near the collision site.

RCMP say a car and a pickup truck collided at the intersection at Route 112 and Homestead Road around 6 p.m. Monday.

An 18-year-old woman from Lewis Mountain, a 24-year-old woman from Moncton and a one-year-old boy all died at the scene.

“It’s something that no police officer wants to attend, especially when children are involved,” said RCMP Cpl. Chantal Ouellette.

Students and faculty mourn high school student

Inside J.M.A. Armstrong High School in Salisbury, students and faculty were mourning the news that one of their own, an 18-year-old graduating student, was one of victims.

“Everyone is really, really upset — this is the quietest I have ever seen the school. Just like everyone is crying in there and there are a bunch of grief counselors,” said Gerogia Trecardin, a friend of the victim.

“I was on the rugby team with her and we always practiced together and we always has good times together. It was really sad to see her go,” said Jayden Lewis, also a student at the school.

RCMP say a 24-year-old man and a three-year-old boy travelling in the same car as the victims were taken to hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the pick up truck was also treated but later released.

Vautour says he travels this road often and says the accident is tragic, but not surprising.

“There are accidents all the time here and there have been a lot of people injured and even killed here,” he said.

Even though the intersection is clearly marked, he says people driving through here often fail to stop.
