The Halifax yoga community was grieving the loss of one of its instructors Monday, as police confirmed on Sunday that the victim of a weekend homicide was former studio owner Kristin Johnston.

Johnston used to own the now-closed downtown yoga studio Bikram Yoga, which recently changed its name to 42 Degrees Fitness & Wellness, before closing last month.

No charges laid in murder

Police found Johnston’s body in her home on Oceanview Dr. early Saturday morning, after responding to a 9-1-1 call from inside the home.

One man was taken into custody before being transported to hospital for what police describe as significant injuries. He was released pending the treatment of his injuries.

“At this point, we’re not looking for anyone else,” said HRP spokesperson Theresa Rath.

“The one person in hospital, he does remain a person of interest and there is no other public safety concerns at this point.”

Another man willingly went with police for questioning and any involvement has been ruled out.

Halifax police have confirmed that both the man arrested, and the other who willingly went in for questioning, lived at the Oceanview Dr. home.

Police released the crime scene at about 2:30 p.m. Monday and say the investigation is ongoing.
