MONTREAL – Firefighters battled a major blaze that raged through three buildings in the Old Port Thursday night.
The smell of wood burning and smoke could be detected as far as Griffintown.
It started around 11 p.m. on des Soeurs Grises Street.
“A man, aged 52, was arrested. He was stuck on the third floor when the fire was occurring,” explained Jean-Pierre Brabant with Montreal police.
“He was saved by firefighters and transferred to hospital.”
The man suffered minor injuries due to smoke inhalation.
“He will be met with investigators later in the day to determine his implication in the fire,” said Brabant.
The investigation has since been transferred to the arson squad.
Authorities are on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
