MONTREAL – A freezing rain warning issued by Environment Canada means heavy snowfall and slippery roads for the morning commute.
Flurries overnight will change to freezing rain around midday Tuesday with 5 millimetres expected to accumulate.
The Sûreté du Québec issued a warning to motorists to reduce speeds and stay alert at all times since road conditions will deteriorate throughout the day.
There will be an increased police presence on the roads to enforce safer driving.
The freezing rain warning is in effect for:
- Châteauguay – La Prairie area
- Laval area
- Longueuil – Varennes area
- Montreal island area

Significant ice buildup is expected, with the northern part of the Saint-Lawrence Valley accumulating from 10 to 20 millimetres of freezing rain.
There are delays and cancellations at the airport, especially for flights to and from Toronto and the U.S. North East.

All schools, centres and daycare services are cancelled due to the weather conditions.
There are no closures announced for the Lester B. Pearson, Riverside, New Frontiers and English Montreal school boards.
