A national bank is joining efforts to raise money to support those in La Loche, Sask. During February, the First Nations Bank of Canada will collect donations at branches across Canada.

The bank will also give the La Loche Community School $5,000 to buy new athletic equipment and upgrade its facilities.

“Canadians from coast to coast have been touched by this tragedy,” said Keith Martell, CEO of the Saskatoon-based bank.

“In our case, some of our employees are originally from La Loche and many of our customers, in other regions of Canada, have expressed a desire to help.”

Four people were killed and seven others injured after a shooting in the northern Saskatchewan community on Jan. 22.

The efforts will add to donations that have already been coming in through a go-fund-me page, which has raised around $27,000 to date.
