There may have been a mild start to Friday, but it won’t last long.
Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Halifax and surrounding areas with up to 20 centimetres expected for the day.
Rain will begin late Friday morning then change to snow, which could become heavy at times this afternoon. We could see 10 millimetres of rain before the snow starts.
WATCH: Weather specialist Alex Haider gives an update on today’s Nor’easter.
Snow will begin around noon, and then get heavier as the afternoon continues, with winds picking up to go along with it. The snow will persist into the evening, then taper off to flurries overnight.
Anywhere from 15 to 20 centimetres of snow can be expected by Saturday morning.

City getting in gear
The city is advising that the overnight parking ban will be in effect Friday and Saturday nights to allow for crews to clear the streets and sidewalks after the snowfall.
The MacDonald Bridge will also stay open all weekend because of the weather.
Solid waste collection is still going ahead as planned for Friday, but the city is asking residents to make sure their garbage isn’t in the way of plows.
Several schools across the region are closed for the day, or closing at noon to avoid the nasty winter weather.
