Don McLean, ‘American Pie’ singer, opens up about domestic abuse incident

American Pie singer Don McLean was arrested and charged with domestic violence on Monday morning after an “incident” that occurred in his home in Maine.

State police showed up at McLean’s house after a 911 call came through shortly before 2 a.m.

McLean, 70, was arrested without incident, booked at a local jail and released shortly thereafter on $10,000 bail. Now the singer has taken to Twitter to reveal his side of the story.

He says that the alleged altercation is the result of “the very painful breakdown of an almost 30 year relationship.”

McLean is scheduled to appear at Knox County District Court on February 22.
