DOLLARD-DES-ORMEAUX – Lissa Albert is carrying something new since the last time Global News interviewed her: a police report number for the fraud investigation against Steven Miller Landscaping.

“I went to the station to find out what needed to be done in order to mount a case against him,” she said.

“I got a lot of people and a lot of information and what we’ve done is opened up a report that hopefully will lead to him to being questioned and investigated for criminal fraud.”

Last November, Steven Miller Landscaping filed for bankruptcy after receiving money from clients.

At the time, Montreal police told Global News that if enough people came forward to tell them about their experience with the landscaping company, it could spark an investigation.

That’s exactly what Albert and others are trying to do.

“Under the bankruptcy act, he is protected from any civil suits, but he is not protected from criminal suits,” she said.

“That’s when the police get involved and so at this point, we are in the process of getting statements and getting as many people as we can to come forward.”

Liana Nutbrown is one of those people.

She claims her mother gave Miller $2,300 for work that was never completed.

“I’m really happy that there’s going to be a follow through with this situation,” said Nutbrown.

“I think that’s important. It would have been really disappointing for nothing to have happened.”

“I’m really glad and proud of other people for speaking up and getting together, because that’s the right thing to do.”

She said she wants to raise awareness so other people don’t end up in the same situation as her mother.

“We made a mistake, so now if I can help bring awareness to the community and to other people, to let them know that we were done wrong and the job wasn’t completed,” she said.

Global News tried to reach out to Steven Miller once again by going to the home listed on his personal bankruptcy record, but there was no response.

Montreal police refused to comment because it said complaints are confidential, however they encourage anyone with a similar story to speak out.
