Suspect charged with first-degree murder in 2014 stabbing death of Toronto man

TORONTO — Police have charged a suspect with first-degree murder in connection with a 2014 stabbing left a 23-year-old Toronto man dead.

Police responded to reports of a fight between two groups of men known to each other in the city’s east end, in the Danforth Avenue and Dawes Road, on Sept. 8, 2014.

Dwayne Goodwin died in hospital after being stabbed during the altercation, while a second stabbing victim was treated for serious injuries and released.

Det. Rob North said at the time that the stabbings were “not a random act of violence.”

Nineteen-year-old Vaughn Shears and a youth who can’t be named were arrested and remanded in custody.

On Tuesday, Toronto police homicide investigators arrested a third man, Marcus Connell, 27, of Toronto. He has been charged with first-degree murder and appeared in a Toronto court Wednesday.
