Man arrested after entering unlocked Kelowna bank

KELOWNA – A Kelowna man is in police custody and is expected to appear in court Monday accused of breaking into a bank Sunday evening.

RCMP say the man entered the TD Canada Trust branch on the 1900 block of Harvey Avenue at about six o’clock after janitorial staff left the door unlocked, probably accidentally, between the ATM vestibule and the main building.

“Once inside, the suspect began searching drawers and cabinets for cash,” says Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey Kelowna RCMP Media Relations. “The suspect then began to force entry through an interior wall connected to the bank’s cash dispensary room.”

Alerted by the noise, the janitors locked themselves in a room and called 9-1-1.

Police surrounded the bank before entering and arresting the suspect without incident.
