The top baby names in B.C. in 2014 have been released by the Vital Statistics Agency and Olivia and Ethan top the list.
2014 is the third year in a row that Olivia has been the number one girl’s name, but Ethan edged out 2013’s winner, Liam, to take the top spot for the boy’s in 2014.
Ethan has been in the number one or number two spot each year since 2002 in B.C.

- Emily

Top five boy’s names for 2014:
- Ethan
- Liam
- Lucas
- Oliver
- Mason
The Vital Statistics Agency says 44,500 babies were born in B.C. in 2014, with 22,957 being boys and 21,543 being girls.
You can also see how many names were chosen in B.C. by letter to see if your name made the list. Only names that occur five or more times are listed.
Preliminary statistics suggest that 2015 could be the year of the Olive. Looking at the numbers from Jan. 1, 2015, to Dec. 1, 2015, show Olivia still is a popular choice and Oliver is so far edging out Liam and Ethan for first place.
Final statistics will not be available until later in 2016 as it takes time to gather all the data for the year.
