Pair caught with sawed-off rifle in Saskatoon facing 18 charges

SASKATOON – Two people will spend Christmas Eve in front of a justice of the peace. This, after they attempted to evade Saskatoon police early Thursday morning.

Patrol officers said they spotted a suspicious Chevrolet Cobalt in the area of Wilson Crescent and Preston Avenue around 4 a.m. CT.

They attempted to stop the car but the driver refused to pull over for the officers. A chase ensued which was aborted a short time later.

Officers located the car in an alley behind Simpson Crescent a few minutes later, where it had crashed into a fence.

A police dog tracked down two people hiding in a nearly backyard, where one person, a 21-year-old man was found to have a .22 calibre sawed-off rifle. A 33-year-old woman was also arrested.

Along with a number of firearm charges, the woman is facing breach of probation charges. The man was also wanted on an apprehension warrant at the time of his arrest.

They are expected to see a justice of the peace Thursday evening.
