UPDATE: No charges for four youth questioned in relation to gun cache

UPDATE: Regina Police have released four teenage boys after taking them in for questioning in relation to the stash of guns found near Campbell Collegiate Tuesday.

No charges were laid against the boys, meaning investigators are back to square one.

As of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, nobody has been arrested in connection to the random shootings or the covered up gun stash.

REGINA – Regina police have confirmed that four youths were detained Tuesday afternoon in connection to the discovery of a cache of guns that may have been used in the four random shootings last week.

Thanks to a tip, police have found a number of covered up guns near a walking path between two buildings in the same area where bullets flew last week.

Investigators could not confirm the guns are the ones used in the shootings, but said they were similar to the kind of weapon they were looking for.

At the same press conference, Deputy Chief Dean Rae said officers have also identified persons of interest in the crimes, but did not share any descriptions.

In connection to the shooting investigations, Campbell Collegiate was also briefly put into ‘secure the building’ mode Tuesday afternoon.

“We just needed to locate some persons of interest and we’ve done that so now the hold and secure has been lifted,” said Rae.

While Global News was on scene at the high school, our camera caught officers bringing two boys out of the school in handcuffs. Both boys were put into the back of police cruisers.

Police later confirmed they had detained three youths, though they would not say whether the three are the persons of interest they were looking for, or how they might be connected to the shootings.

Meanwhile, Reginans were on edge Tuesday as they went about their errands in the south end of the city.

Kim Tessier said ” I’m pretty worried, concerned. It’s very random, so you never know. Is it going to stay in the south end?”

A Moose Jaw resident echoed the statement. “Yea that’s a little scary. We don’t have shootings in Moose Jaw, not that I know of anyways,” said Kassy Miller. “It makes me want to leave this parking lot, that’s for sure.”

Meanwhile, Police Chief Troy Hagen urged people in the area to remain vigilant and take precautions: “Leave your exterior lighting on in your homes. We would suggest that perhaps in a 10 block radius of Gordon and Albert.”

Hagen said he understands people’s fear. “Obviously it is going to be of concern, we know that. But I can assure you we have police officers in the area. We will be doing everything we can to do two things – hold this person accountable and secondly to keep our community safe.”
