REGINA – The Police Chief is warning residents to be vigilant after a series of shootings over four days in Regina’s south end.
The incidents all happened within four days, starting in the wee hours of the morning on Thursday, November 12th.
Shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to a business on South Albert Street where gunshots had came through the window while customers were inside.
Just minutes later, a home on Gordon Road was also struck by bullets, shocking homeowners.
Nobody was injured in either of these first two incidents.
On Sunday night, the area was once again the the scene of gun violence, but this time two people were struck by the bullets. The shootings happened around 11:30 p.m. outside the Pizza Hut and McDonalds on South Albert.
The victims, a 33-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, remained in hospital Monday with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the victims do not know each other and do not appear to be related in any way, leading Cheif Troy Hagen to warn the public the shootings may be both connected and random.
“What’s of concern to the Regina Police Service is that we’ve had four incidents within a relatively close period of time, in close proximity – geographically speaking. Also, the times of these incidents are somewhat similar – within really a two or three hour period,” he said.
As of Monday evening, police had no eye-witness accounts or suspect descriptions. Hagen couldn’t say whether these incidents were drive-by shootings or whether the assailants were on foot.
Investigators believe the weapon is a smaller handgun, but are asking for the public’s help to catch the perpetrators before anyone else gets hurt.
