MONCTON – A boxing mom is about to take on one of the biggest fights of her professional career.
Annie Mazerolle doesn’t know the meaning of the word “quit.”
“I have been down before in fights where I almost got knocked out and came back and won the fight so I put my heart out there,” she said.
Crowned Canada’s top amateur heavy weight female champion back in 2005, Mazerolle says she was born to fight.
“I just, I don’t know, I like to punch things,” she jokes.
On Dec. 5, Mazerolle will take on Quebec’s powerhouse Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse.
“I would say on paper it is my toughest fight yet cause she has more experience than me,” said Mazerolle.
Especially after she took a seven-year break from the ring to focus on raising her son Malik, now 10 years old.

Mazerolle’s trainer Jeff McKay says they are training hard and she will be ready to take on the worthy opponent.
“Two-time Canadian Champion, she is on that national team representing Canada at all the big championships so definitely a step us for us,” he said.
But he says Mazerolle is ready.bo
“She is a different person for sure when she gets into the ring, you see the mean side of her,” he said.
It took two long years for Mazerolle to even find a fighter willing to come to New Brunswick to take her on. She says female fighters in the Maritimes are scarce.
“So it makes it hard for female fighters especially at our weight to find fights,” she said.
But if she can pull off a win, Mazerolle will make a name for herself and more pros from across Canada and the U.S. will want to take her on.
There’s no one more in her corner than Malik.
“I want to support her,” he said.
But he may not get to do it in person, said Mazerolle – Malik has yet to see his mom battle it out in the ring for real.
“He knows it’s a sport but who wants to see their mom get hit.”
