Pair try to evade Prince Albert, Sask. police in stolen vehicle

Prince Albert, Sask. police have two people in custody after they allegedly tried to evade officers while driving a stolen vehicle. Police say an officer passed the stolen vehicle Monday evening in the 800-block of River Street West.

Instead of giving chase, the officer turned to follow the stolen vehicle a safe distance behind while waiting for backup units to arrive.

According to officials, the officer lost sight of the accelerating vehicle but was able to locate it abandoned in the 1300-block of 6th Avenue West.

A police dog was able to track the pair to a residence a short distance away where they were found hiding in an unlocked vehicle.

Police said they also recovered two firearms in the vehicle the pair were hiding in.

A 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, both from Prince Albert, are facing bail violation charges.

Both are scheduled to make their first appearance in Prince Albert provincial court on Nov. 15.

Police said more charges may be pending as they continue their investigation.
