Kyle Peterson has won the riding of Newmarket-Aurora for the Liberals, upsetting Progressive Conservative incumbent Lois Brown.
The two candidates faced off previously in 2011, with Brown coming out on top with 54.3 per cent of the vote to Peterson’s 23.9 per cent.
The boundary redistribution worked in Peterson’s favour. This riding previously included all of Newmarket and Aurora, but under the new boundaries Aurora has been split in half with this riding including only the section north of Wellington Street.

Brown previously won in a landslide, but if these boundaries were in effect in 2011, the Conservatives would still have won with 54.1 per cent of the vote, followed by the Liberals with 23.7 per cent.
The riding was created in 2004, when it was won by Conservative Belinda Stronach. She crossed over to the Liberals in 2006 and won re-election, but did not run again in 2008.
