Youth charged with 25 offences related to Alberta car thefts

EDMONTON – A 17-year-old boy has been charged with 25 offences in connection to several thefts in the Millet area.

Wetaskiwin RCMP launched an investigation on Sunday, when someone caught the youth stealing their vehicle. The person was struck by the vehicle as the teen was leaving the area, but wasn’t injured in the incident. The teen reportedly ditched the vehicle a short time later.

On Wednesday, RCMP received a call for another vehicle theft. Officers were able to catch the suspect, who was the same person linked to the theft on Sunday.

Later that morning, RCMP said they received 10 other calls from the Millet area in relation to thefts from vehicles and trespassing at night. Police said they have linked all of the incidents to the same teen.

The 17-year-old has been charged with the following:

  • 2 counts of theft of motor vehicle;
  • 1 count assault with a weapon;
  • 3 counts of theft from a motor vehicle;
  • 3 counts of trespass at night;
  • 1 count of dangerous driving;
  • 1 count of mischief;
  • 1 count of flight from police;
  • 1 count of theft;
  • 1 count of resist arrest;
  • 1 count of possession of marijuana;
  • 1 count of possession of ammunition when prohibited;
  • 6 counts of breech of probation;
  • 2 counts of driving an uninsured motor vehicle on a highway;
  • 1 count of failing to remain at the scene of a collision;

RCMP said the youth is not from the Millet area.

Millet is located about 50 kilometres south of Edmonton.
