REGINA – The Civic Museum of Regina, formally known as the Regina Plains Museum, is getting a second chance. After announcing their closure in August due to a lack of funds, the city is giving them a one-time $85,000 grant.

The grant comes in two parts. $25,000 is to be used to develop options for a sustainable business plan to be presented at the end of the year. The remaining $60,00 is help cover rent and operation costs for the rest of the year.

“We’ve known that we’ve been struggling with dollars for a long time,” said Civic Museum President Rod Deglau. “[This money] gives us enough to open the doors until our next funding cycle.”

The museum contains about 20,000 artifacts, which are still stored at their location on the 1300 block of Broad Street.

“Our task going forward now is who are the partners out there, who can help us, who’s got space, and what can this museum look like,” said Deglau.

The Civic Museum must provide the city a full account of how the $60,000 is spent as a condition of the grant.
