LONGUEUIL – A-13-year-old girl is dead after she was hit by a car while attempting to cross the street Friday evening.
The accident happened at a crosswalk on Parc-Industriel Street near St-Charles Street shortly before 8:00 p.m.
Apparently the girl had just got out of a car when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
She was transported to hospital where she died of her injuries.
Investigators are still trying to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal accident but have ruled out speed and alcohol as factors in the crash.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, could be issued a ticket for failing to stop at a crosswalk.
It is too soon in the investigation to say whether she could face any criminal charges.
