EDMONTON – A 78-year-old man died Monday after a serious collision on Anthony Henday Drive in south Edmonton.
The collision happened at around 9:30 a.m. between a semi-truck and car.
Police said a Dodge Avenger merged onto the Henday westbound from 91 Street and crossed a solid line into the far lane of the road. A semi-truck heading west in the middle lane of the Henday struck the car on the driver’s side as it was crossing, police said Monday afternoon.
The car ended up in the grassy median between the easy and westbound lanes of the Henday.
The driver and lone occupant of the car was taken to the University of Alberta Hospital with serious injuries where he later died.
The westbound lanes of Anthony Henday at 91 Street were closed for several hours and police were advising motorists to avoid the area. The lanes reopened to traffic Monday afternoon.
No other injuries were reported. Police have not laid charges against the driver of the semi at this time.
This is the 21st traffic fatality in Edmonton this year.
