SUMMERLAND — A new 140-metre bike path will be built near a Summerland sports complex.

The provincial government is footing half of the bill, providing $68,006 to help fund the Dale Meadows Bike Path, which will run from the south end of Sinclair Road to the sports complex.

“We are very pleased to receive funding so we can move forward with the cycling trail to connect the Dale Meadows sports complex to the residential areas. People of all ages use this facility and it will provide an opportunity for cycling that is not part of the vehicle road network,” says Summerland Mayor Peter Waterman in a news release.

The Dale Meadows Bike Path is a BikeBC project, the government’s cost-sharing program that helps local governments build cycling projects that attract and support commuter, recreational and tourism cyclists and pedestrians.

“The south Okanagan is known far and wide as an area that takes cycling and fitness seriously,” says Penticton M.L.A. Dan Ashton in the release.  “The Dale Meadows Bike Path will enhance our reputation while encouraging residents and visitors to get out and enjoy cycling on a new, safe path.”
