Penticton SPCA seeks donations for stray cat with bullet wound

PENTICTON — The Penticton SPCA is asking for your help after a stray cat with a bullet wound was brought into the non-profit.

Sunny is a four-year-old male tabby cat who has a limp in his hind right leg from an old injury.

When Sunny was checked out by a vet, his x-ray showed remains and debris of a bullet in his knee joint.

SPCA staff say the injury was old and had healed, but not before causing arthritis, swelling and pain for the feline.

“Sunny had to have his leg amputated, but despite his pain and all that he’s been through, he’s a calm and affectionate cat – he’s great with other cats and loves kittens and food,” says South

Okanagan-Similkameen BC SPCA Branch manager, Corinne Ross. “He’s a real favourite with the volunteers! The amputation surgery went well and he’s recovering nicely in foster care.”

Ross says the cat will need weekly check-ups for the next few weeks and will be available for adoption once he is fully healed.

Ross says despite the discounted rate from Rose Valley Veterinary Hospital, his medical costs are expected to be at least $1,650.

“[As] a non-profit organization, the BC SPCA relies mainly on public donations to carry out its life-saving work in helping the province’s most vulnerable animals. Sunny is such a sweetheart! We just want him to have a chance to live out the rest of his nine lives in a loving home,” says Ross.

Donations can be dropped off in person at 2200 Dartmouth Drive in Penticton. Click here for more information.
