Man recorded jumping, rolling under moving freight train

WATCH ABOVE: It’s not every day you see a man rolling around under a moving train, but that’s exactly what happened in the Houston area recently and it was caught on camera. Marcelino Benito reports.

TORONTO – A Texas man has pulled off a death-defying stunt that has authorities urging people not to repeat because the result could mean death.

Cesar Renteria owns a car wash in Channelview, Texas and was waiting for a freight train to pass at a nearby rail crossing when something made his jaw hit the floor.

A man, dressed in a black shirt and shorts, risked his own life to not only dive underneath the train to get to the other side, but also rolled around under the train multiple times as if it were an innocent game.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“When I see him cross to the other side, the people on the other side were surprised too, they say look at this guy, he’s crazy you know,” Renteria told CBS affiliate KHOU.

“That’s not right, very, very dangerous to go under the train when it’s running,” said Renteria.

And he isn’t the only one shaking his head. A representative of Union Pacific Railroad doesn’t like the footage at all.

Spokesman Jeff Degraff had trouble watching the video when a KHOU reporter brought it to his attention. He was quick to caution that a stunt like this, especially if it went awry, could cause a derailment and affect more than just the culprit.

“This is never a game,” said Degraff. “You’re taking your life and the lives of others in your hands.”

Seventy-nine accidents occurred at Canadian rail crossings in the first six months of 2015, including two fatalities and three serious injuries, as reported by Operation Lifesaver – a service funded by The Railway Association of Canada and Transport Canada.
