Jennifer Abel, Pamela Ware win gold, silver in diving at Pan Am Games

TORONTO – Canadian divers continued their dominant run at the Pan American Games on Sunday as Jennifer Abel won gold and Pamela Ware took silver in the women’s three-metre springboard.

Abel, from Laval, Que., took the lead after her second dive and cemented it with an incredible third dive that scored 86.70.

She finished with a total score of 384.70 — 58.70 points ahead of Ware.

Ware, from Montreal, took the early lead with a dive that scored 72.00 and did enough to hold on to second place.

Dolores Hernandez of Mexico finished third.

Divers from Quebec have now picked up five medals in two days. On Saturday, Roseline Filion earned silver and Meaghan Benfeito took bronze in women’s 10-metre platform, while Philippe Gagne took bronze in men’s three-metre springboard.

The men’s 10-metre platform went later Sunday. Canada’s Vincent Riendeau was third in the preliminary round.
