RECAP: Pan Am Games opening ceremony

WATCH: Many people in Toronto are now embracing the idea of hosting the Pan Am Games despite logistical concerns leading up to the international party. Mark McAllister reports.

TORONTO – The 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto officially kicked off Friday with the opening ceremony at the Rogers Centre.

The ceremony featured a 150-minute presentation by Cirque du Soleil with 625 performers representing 25 nationalities.

Before the presentation, Cirque du Soleil creative director Jean Guibert said the show would feature audience and athlete interaction.

“We’re doing a show that we wanted to be exciting and relevant to the athletes. One of the things we’ve decided to do was to make [the audience] part of the show,” Guibert said. “The athletes are really going to be quite part of the design, which is quite an original way of integrating them into the show.”
